Thank Offering Boxes 1924-1957.

This series consists of fourteen Thank Offering boxes and one special tenth anniversary fund mite box. There are two types of Thank Offering boxes in this series, those that were used by the women's missionary societies, and those used by the children's missionary societies. The Light Brigades were the WMS children's missionary societies. They were organized according to the ages of the children. Little Lights were children up to six years of age. The Thank Offering boxes they used were called cradle boxes. Lamp Lighters were children between the ages of six and nine. They along with the Torch Bearers, children aged ten to fourteen, used Thank Offering boxes with the designation Torch Bearers or Lamp Lighters. There is also a special Light Brigade Thank Offering box in the shape of a Japanese school. This was to collect money for the building of a kindergarten in the ULCA Japan mission field. More than. The remaining eight Thank Offering boxes are the general boxes used by the WMS. There are seven general Thank Offering boxes and one box used by the Young Women's Missionary Society. The last box in the series is a mite box in the shape of a birthday cake. It was used for the collection of a special gift for the WMS Tenth Anniversary Fund. In 1928 the WMS was celebrating its tenth anniversary. It was decided that from September 1927 to June 1928, each society at its monthly meetings would collect a special free-will offering to be presented at the 1928 general convention in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
